It's been a pretty hectic weekend. Sent my mom to the airport earlier so she could catch her flight back to KL.
Starting tomorrow, I've got to prepare my own meals. With my mom around, she cooked pretty much most of the time. She was really great with cooking paleo and I've actually got some really good meal ideas from her.
She actually said she lost some weight because she ate what I ate. LOL...
Anyway, since I've been on paleo and also since I started logging in my food on the sparkpeople app, I noticed that I feel really really shocked by the amount of sugar that goes into food. See, I love watching cooking shows. And there are several cooking series on BBC that I watch. I see the host pour in cups and cups of sugar into the cakes. Usually, the more decadent or rich the cake is, there's definately more sugar in it.
Just FYI - One cup of brown sugar is about 836 calories, one cup of castor sugar is 774 calories, one cup of confectioners sugar is 467 calories (info from google).
The shock factor comes in because I love baking cakes... The richer the cake, the better...
I made stuff like :
THIS and
THIS
Now, it's not that I don't love it. But I never really knew how much calories I could easily consume in a tiny piece of the yummy cakes. Cakes are fabulous but they are not friendly to people who are trying to loose weight.
BTW, if you are craving something chocolaty and sweet, those to recipes are fabulous! (But eat in moderation)
Will I be making those kind of cakes in the future? I think I will, saying "NO" is just setting myself up for failure. But I hope at that point in time, moderation will be firmly entrenched in my life and I can limit myself to a tiny piece.
